Ysgol Meddylfryd sy'n tyfu - Growth Mindset School

We at St Mary's, like you, our parents, want our children to be prepared for the developing world of the future. To do this we undertook some research with Shirley Clarke a pioneer in developing and moving children's learning forward. https://www.shirleyclarke-education.org/

Part of our work in assessment for learning is understanding that the brain is a growing; developing muscle that will continue to learn throughout our lifetime. The children will have seen the following video in our themed assemblies introducing each 'Learning Power.' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rf8FX2sI3gU

Each learning area has a display in which we have our 'Learning Powers.' These help us to have a go, keep trying, and build confidence and resilience in our learning.

We approach everything we teach using a growth mindset, we love to see 'Marvellous Mistakes', as that shows we are learning something new. We thrive on rehearsal, as you know what we say...'The more you practice, the better you get...absolutely!' Through developing these positive attitudes to our learning, using our learning bullseyes as well as working with our 'Learning Partners' we know we will be embedding the four purposes which are the heart of our new curriculum.

During the course of this year, we will continue to develop our own knowledge in researching and evaluating our current methods to further develop the teaching and learning strategies in our school.

If you would like further information on our teaching approaches, please do come and see me.
